A billionaire prince from Saudi Arabia is searching out a city to build the world’s highest skyscraper, reaching a mile into the sky — and on the list is New York.
“Right now, we are discussing and evaluating the possibility of building a one-mile tower,” said Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, in Reuters. “We also need good partners.”
The prince has partnered with Emaar Properties — Dubai’s largest real estate developer, headed by Mohammed Alabbar — to bring the project to fruition, Reuters said.
A mile-high skyscraper would be the world’s tallest. And the prince’s announcement reflects the growing push for Middle Eastern nations to grow their presence overseas.
“I am now inviting the major cities of the world like Shanghai, Moscow, New York, London and regional cities in the Middle East to come and give their offers,” Mr. Alwaleed said, in Reuters.
Countries who want to compete for the tower have to provide attractive financing, including generous tax breaks, he told Reuters.
