A former hitman who served 12 years in prison after admitting he killed at least 20 people is set to testify Monday against James “Whitey” Bulger, who is accused of murder.
John Martorano cut a deal with prosecutors to testify against Bulger and was released after only 12 years, in 2007, The Associated Press reported. He’s one of three former Bulger associates who have agreed to testify. The other two are Bulger’s former partner, Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi and former Bulger lieutenant Kevin Weeks.
Bulger, 83, faces 32 counts: He’s charged with participating in 19 murders, and with extorting bookmakers, drug dealers and other businesses, AP reported.
