British Prime Minister David Cameron predicted Monday’s gathering of G-8 leaders will prove so successful that nations and individuals around the world will see their own doors opened to prosperity.
“This will be a summit that will drive growth and prosperity all over the world,” Mr. Cameron said, at his arrival at the summit with leaders from the United States, Canada, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and the 27-nation European Union, The Associated Press reported.
The summit is supposed to focus on tax and trade reforms. It’s being held in Northern Ireland — and Mr. Cameron said the summit setting along sends a subtle message of the participants’ ability to overcome.
“Ten or 20 years ago, a G-8 in Fermanagh would have been unimaginable,” he said, in the AP report. “But today Northern Ireland is a very different place … a symbol of hope to the world.”
His reference comes on the heels of that region’s end to a 40-year conflict that led to the death of 3,700.
