Women in the Senate won a drawn-out battle this week, announcing they will finally receive a bathroom renovation that expands upon the two-stall structure that has stood for 20 years.
“We’re even going to have a window,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, from New Hampshire, in a tweet about the revamp — a “sign of the progress we are making.”
The bathroom renovations come as record numbers of female senators have taken up office. Twenty women now serve in that capacity; compare that to 1922, when there was only one.
Traffic is now an issue.
“For the first time, there was a traffic jam in the Senate women’s bathroom,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar said, after the elections, the Daily Mail reported. “There were five of us in there, and there are only two stalls.”
Women on the House side were given a restroom update in 2011, per order of Speaker John Boehner, who directed that a new facility be built adjacent to the House floor, the Daily Mail said.
