A top Internal Revenue Service considered a key player in the political targeting scandal that’s hit the agency in recent weeks was fired and had since dropped from sight, one media outlet claimed in a Friday report.
Nobody’s seen or heard from Holly Paz, the director of the IRS Rulings and Agreements division, since she was fired last Friday, National Review Online reported.
Her computer is inactive, her phone is silent, and her Blackberry has stayed black, NRO reported.
“As of Thursday, the voice mail on Paz’s work phone remains active and callers are asked to leave a message for Paz, though nobody answered repeated calls placed to that number,” NRO reported. “Calls to the mobile phone number listed under Paz’s name in the IRS’s internal directory are sent straight to voice mail and indicate her mailbox has not yet been set up.”
Ms. Paz’s connection to the IRS scandal came out in May, during congressional testimony that revealed she knew the agency was conducting an internal investigation about agents’ alleged targeting of conservative groups — a full year before the inspector general brought forth that information to Congress.
The IRS wouldn’t confirm or deny whether Ms. Paz was fired, The Blaze reported. If true, she would be the first in the agency to lose a job over the scandal.
