New York City mayor hopeful Anthony Weiner had an Al Gore-type moment earlier this week when he took credit for coining the term used to describe the nation’s health care overhaul: Obamacare.
“[It’s] a term, by the way, that I coined and used proudly long before the administration decided it was a good idea,” he said, The New York Post reported.
Truth be told, the term was actually coined by Mitt Romney in 2007, popular thought holds, The Post reported. Twitter wasn’t kind to Mr. Weiner.
“Anthony Weiner claims to have coined the term ’Obamacare,’ that his father is the inventor of the Toaster Strudel,” one tweet stated.
Another tweeted: “Anthony Weiner’s claim to have invented term ’Obamacare’ is the new Al Gore ’I invented the Internet’ legend, huh?”
The campaign rushed to Mr. Weiner’s defense, claiming he didn’t mean to say that he was the first person to use the term, but rather the first “on the left to embrace it unapologetically,” The Post reported.
