OPINION:
Why is The Washington Times condoning the leaks of classified data by Edward Snowden? The Times writes (Editorial, “The Whistleblower,” June 11) that “if the government won’t tell the public what’s going on, someone will.” The Times adds insult to injury by saying, “this government brought it on itself.”
Edward Snowden is a velvet-gloved terrorist. He is the insulated, disaffected “lone wolf” who will save the world, opining from his lair in the Chinese special administrative region, Hong Kong, for goodness’ sake, which is apparently his model of a free and open society.
Mr. Snowden is no better than Tamerlan Tsarnaev. To paraphrase Carl von Clausewitz, leaking government secrets is terrorism by another means. Mr. Snowden may not have his choice of virgins in heaven, but even this high school dropout and junior college quitter is having heroism conferred upon him.
If our snooping is so all-encompassing, why didn’t we catch him? And who let this self-aggrandizing misfit have access to these secrets? This is a serious breach of two kinds of intelligence — classified information and the brains to spot someone who would leak it.
