News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch is divorcing his wife Wendi, the company confirmed on Thursday.

A spokesman for the media giant said the marriage had been “irretrievably broken for more than six months,” Reuters reported.

The filing comes just days before News Corp. will split into two companies, one for its entertainment assets and the other for publishing. Mr. Murdoch, who was listed by Forbes as being worth $9.4 billion, is to be chairman of both companies, Reuters said.

A person familiar with the situation told Reuters that the couple had a prenuptial agreement, and it is unlikely the companies will be affected by the split.

Murdoch, 82, and Wendi Deng, 44, have been married for more than 14 years and have two young daughters.
