Edward Snowden, who fled the United States on the heels of releasing sensitive information about National Security Agency surveillance, may now try to present himself as a serious protector of American rights.
But go back a few years, and he was — as he touted in a 2002 biographical profile at the now-defunct site Ryuhana Press — a Tekken video-game-playing high-school dropout. And he liked his “girlish figure,” he wrote. The site was aimed at selling Japanese anime, the Daily Mail reported.
Using his nicknames, “The True HOOHA” and “Phish,” Mr. Snowden, 18 years old at the time, posted about attending a convention for anime enthusiasts in Maryland, the Daily Mail reported.
“I like my girlish figure that attracts girls,” he wrote in one posting, the Daily Mail reported. “And I like my lamer friends. That’s the best biography you’ll get out of me coppers.”
He also joked on the site that he “got bullied” to be one of the website’s editors by a group of artists and “beautiful nubile young girls,” the Daily Mail reported.
Mr. Snowden, who turns 30 this month, has gone dark in Hong Kong. Some theorize he may be planning to seek asylum there; others say he might be considering an offer to live in Russia, made by President Vladimir Putin.
