Former Pakistani military leader Pervez Musharraf won bail for one of his cases — a court trial to determine his fate from a 2007 decision to fire senior judges.
But he’s staying on house arrest pending the outcome of another case from 2006. That one is centered on the suspicious killing of a Baluch nationalist leader, The Associated Press reported. Pending the judge’s ruling in that bail hearing, Mr. Musharraf could be released from house arrest, his attorney, Malik Qamar Afzal, said in the AP report.
Mr. Musharraf staged a 1999 military coup to rule Pakistan.
He was arrested in April after returning from a four-year self-imposed exile. His hope was to launch a political comeback in the May 11 elections.
