The girlfriend of Edward Snowden, the man at the heart of the NSA whistleblowing who’s now hiding in Hong Kong, says she’s heartbroken, downcast, “lost at sea” without her hoped-for fiance.

She also calls herself in an August 2011 blog post a “world-traveling, pole-dancing super hero” who’s “always wanted to be splashed on the cover of magazines, with my best air-brushed look. Unfortunately, I wasn’t born a Greek, amazon sex goddess — but a petite dreamer.”

Her name is Lindsay Mills, and she’s a 28-year-old former ballerina who attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Daily Mail reported. On Monday, she took to social media to express her heartbreak with the departure of her “man of mystery,” whom she dated for the past four years and expected to one day marry.

“My world has opened and closed all at once. Leaving me lost at sea without a compass,” she wrote, under the name “L’s Journey,” the Daily Mail reported.

She continued, the Daily Mail reported: “As I type this on my tear-streaked keyboard, I’m reflecting on all the faces have graced my path. The ones I laughed with. The ones I’ve held. The one I’ve grown to love the most. And the ones I never got to bid adieu. But sometimes life doesn’t afford proper goodbyes.”

The blog also includes statements of concerns about the blooming American surveillance society. One post: “American is still one of the greatest, but she’s falling in my eyes. I hope her people see where she’s going and ask themselves, ’is this really how I want to live?’ “

The Daily Mail reported Ms. Mills had lived with Mr. Snowden since 2009 and that she hadn’t been aware of his whistleblowing plans or his intended flight to Hong Kong.
