The charges against ex-International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn over a hotel prostitution ring could soon be a thing of the past.
Prosecutors asked a judge to drop them, a lawyer for Mr. Strauss-Kahn said on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. The attorney, Henri Leclerc, said the judge still makes the final decision.
Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s political aspirations for French president crumbled in the wake of a sexual scandal that saw him accused of trying to rape a New York City hotel maid. Those charges were dropped, but he was then implicated in another scandal — that he knowingly partied with prostitutes and paid for them.
His attorneys argue he didn’t know the women at the parties — which he knew were “libertine” get-togethers — were paid prostitutes, AP reported.
