Protesters have scheduled a “National Hoodie March” for Monday in support of Florida shooting victim Trayvon Martin, killed in February 2012 by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman.
Mr. Zimmerman’s trial just kicked off in the Seminole County Courthouse, where the protesters staged their rally. He’s claimed self-defense; he’s charged with second-degree murder.
“We want justice for Trayvon Martin,” one protester said in a MyFoxOrlando.com report. “This is something we’re determined to struggle for, and you know, it’s the only way it’s going to happen is if people in huge numbers around the country show up and show their solidarity and demand it.”
In unison, the group is planning to pull their hoodies over their heads — in much the fashion worn by Mr. Martin.
“Without continued resistance, there will not be justice in this case, or any of the cases where there is a target painted firmly on the backs of black and Latino youth,” the protest group said in a news release.
Some protesters said they had traveled from New York to participate.
