Former South African President Nelson Mandela is still recovering in the hospital from his latest medical bout with a lung infection and is considered in serious but stable condition, doctors said Monday.
“Former President Nelson Mandela remains in hospital, and his condition is unchanged,” an update from the presidency said in a BBC report.
Mr. Mandela, 94, was transported to a Pretoria hospital on Saturday — the third time in the past few months that he’s been admitted.
Mr. Mandela was president between 1994 and 1999. He was put in prison for 27 years, and it’s widely thought his lungs suffered irreparable damage during his forced labor in the prison’s quarry.
