A 16-year-old boy who attended a Pink concert in Australia and live-tweeted a play on words with the singer’s song “Timebomb” found himself in hot water with law enforcement. Arena security staffers tracked him down in the crowd of 12,000, using only his social media photo, and called police to arrest him.
His tweet, at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne: “@Pink I’m ready with my Bomb. Time to blow up #RodLaverArena. [expletive].”
Raw Story reported that police rooted him out, using only his Twitter photo.
“They just came up to me and showed a photo and said, ’Is this you?’ I said, yeah, because it was my face, and suddenly they just turned me around and grabbed my hands and forced me out the back,” the teen said to 10 News.
Police were going to drop charges once they found he wasn’t a terrorist, but officials at the arena insisted on pressing forward with public nuisance charges, said the teen’s father, David King.
“The policeman said to me, ’if it was up to me, I would have booted him in the backside and said go home.’ But [arena staffers] demanded he be arrested,” Mr. King said, as Raw Story reported.
Arena officials at the Melbourne and Olympic Park venue said they were satisfied with how the matter was handled.
