Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin issued a scathing Facebook denouncement of how the State Department handled the fact that Secretary John Kerry was aboard his yacht at the very time Egypt was ousting President Mohammed Morsi — first by denying, then by admitting. She characterized it as a worrisome deception.
CBS initially tweeted that Mr. Kerry was on his yacht while the military coup swirled in Egypt. The State Department denied that claim. But a day later, State spokespeople reversed and said yes, he was aboard the yacht — but he was still working, keeping in contact with the White House about Egypt via telephone.
Ms. Palin, on her Facebook page, wondered: Why the flip-flop?
“Our government, yet again, either had no idea where the boss was, or worse yet, they lied to us,” she wrote on Facebook. And the reason for this deception, she said: “Our government directed its swift-ly boat changing denials to what one can only surmise is their perception of who we are: a nation of sheep — heads down, grazing away, gullible, ignorant and undeserving of truth.”
She called the government’s response “unacceptable,” and spoke of a basic child’s lesson — that “if you lie on the little things, you’ll lie on the big things,” she wrote, Breitbart reported.
Ms. Palin also raised a point from George Orwell’s writings when the author warned through his novel “1984” of “a time when citizens could no longer trust big government, and by wearing down the citizenry through doublespeak and lies, a tired country finally retreated to its dark and depressing demise.” Her point, she wrote and Breitbart reported: “I don’t see how any rational citizen could trust big government at this point.”
