Masked gunmen opened fire into a Christian place of worship, the Mar Mina Church in Port Said in northeast Egypt on Tuesday.

The shooters were able to escape, the Egypt Independent reported. Military and police officials arrived on scene to investigate the attack — the third by masked gunmen on a public place in the region in the last 24 hours. On Monday, attackers shot at a Port Said police department. And around the same time frame, masked gunmen launched at attack at the area’s seaport, Egypt Independent said.

The attacks come just days after President Mohammed Morsi was ousted from office in a military coup. Muslim Brotherhood protesters supporting Mr. Morsi have been rallying in the streets of Cairo, showing support for their ousted leader.
