A source close to Teresa Heinz Kerry’s family said Monday the ailing billionaire may have suffered a seizure and that’s what led to her emergency admittance to a Massachusetts hospital.

The family became concerned on Sunday “when they noticed symptoms that were consistent with a sort of seizure,” the unnamed source said, in Agence France-Presse.

Mrs. Heinz Kerry — the 74-year-old wife of Secretary of State John Kerry — was at the family’s vacation home on Nantucket Island when she succumbed to a medical ailment and was rushed to a local hospital late Sunday. She was then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

“After conducting tests overnight and this morning, doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital have upgraded Mrs. Teresa Heinz Kerry’s condition from critical to fair,” Mr. Kerry spokesman Glen Johnson said in a statement.

Mr. Kerry was reportedly at his wife’s side throughout the ordeal. It’s not known when he will return to official duties, AFP said.

“She is still being evaluated, and there is no diagnosis of any kind yet,” the source said, in the AFP report.
