Sixty-seven were shot in Chicago in a five-day span that wrapped Sunday, and CNN host Piers Morgan says he has the solution to the violence: Send in the federal government.

Chicago, which has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, is a failed model, Mr. Morgan said, Breitbart reported. But the answer isn’t to loosen restrictions and let law-abiding citizens free access to guns for protection, he said. Rather, it’s for the federal government to clamp down across the nation.

“Who is going to stop this insanity?” Mr. Piers tweeted, about the spate of gun violence in the city.

He then tweeted: “Chicago’s supposedly ’tough’ gun laws are utterly pointless when states around it have weak gun laws. American needs to take federal action.”

And another tweet: “The gun ’rights’ lobby can tell me the only answer to gun violence is more guns until they’re blue in the face. It’s utter nonsense.”
