Roadside bomb in Afghanistan kills 4 girls carting water

Four Afghani girls on their way home from a mission to fetch water for their families were killed by a roadside bomb early Thursday morning.

The girls, between the ages of 10 and 12, were walking back to the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah when the bomb detonated, said Ummar Zawaq, spokesman for Helmand’s governor, The Associated Press reported.

So far, about 180 civilians were killed in Afghanistan in the past month, AP said.

Also Thursday, 11 Taliban militants and an Afghan soldier were killed in two separate unspecified operations outside Kabul, the Ministry of Defense said, AP reported. Seven more militants with the Taliban were injured in the same operations.
