Radio host Rush Limbaugh, in a rare television appearance Tuesday with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, said it’s clear the Republican Party wants nothing to do with tea partiers.
He claimed most in the party don’t even want anything to do with strong conservative, or traditional, principles, Newsmax reported.
“They’re not particularly crazy about conservatives,” he said.
Tea party members, for their part, aren’t enamored with Republican leadership, rising up in 2010 to take on congressional seats and bailing from voting in the 2012 election of Mitt Romney, whom they saw as a quasi-conservative.
Mr. Limbaugh suggested that the current course Republicans are cruising — compromising with Democrats on key conservative principles — is a political fail.
“The country’s hanging by a thread here. We’re about to lose it,” he said. “Why compromise with the people responsible for this?”
