Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, is due to take a lengthy vacation from her job with former first lady Hillary Clinton in August, and campaign officials for her husband’s mayoral race have rushed to explain that the time off is not a “leave of absence.”

Politico reported that Ms. Abedin has had plans to take vacation time to support her family during her husband’s mayoral run. It’s not yet clear when her vacation will start or finish, though, Politico said.

“Huma is not taking a leave of absence, but she will be taking vacation time in August to support her family during Anthony’s campaign,” one campaign official working for Mr. Weiner said, in Politico. “She had always intended to do this.”

Politico also reported that her loose vacation plans coincide with Mrs. Clinton’s lighter August work schedule.

Mr. Weiner has been fighting ongoing sexting scandals for weeks, and as Politico earlier reported, some in the Clinton family camp had expressed concern about the negative media coverage.
