National Security Agency information leaker Edward Snowden will not go quietly if Russian authorities decide to shoot down his request for temporary asylum, his lawyer said Wednesday.
Mr. Snowden filed for asylum on July 16. He’s still waiting on the results, but his attorney Anatoly Kucherena vowed that if Russia says no, a legal battle would ensue, NBC reported.
Meanwhile, Fox News reported that an attempt from the Federal Bureau of Investigations to unite Mr. Snowden with his father in Moscow fell flat on Wednesday.
FBI agents had petitioned the elder Mr. Snowden to meet with his son for weeks.
“I received this suggestion [from the FBI to travel to Moscow] a few weeks ago,” said Lonnie Snowden, to Russia media and as reported by NBC. But he first wanted to see what the FBI wanted him to do, he said.
Fox News said Wednesday morning that he declined the meeting after all because U.S. officials made perceived misleading statements about the information his son released on government surveillance techniques.
Mr. Snowden has been stuck at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport for more than a month.
