At least 16 suspected militants were killed by an early morning U.S. unmanned drone strike on Wednesday, Pakistani intelligence officers said.
The strike — the drone fired four missiles at a house — went forth in the North Waziristan tribal area and also left two other suspected militants injured, CBS reported.
The death toll is still unclear; Reuters said at least 17 were killed.
Reuters also reported the attack was the biggest fatal unmanned drone strike from the United States toward Pakistan since the beginning of the year.
Pakistani government officials are fuming, calling the strike a clear violation of its sovereignty, CBS said.
The suspected militants were thought to be members of the Haqqani network, a dangerous faction with ties to Taliban leadership that’s battling U.S. troops in Afghanistan
