A Catholic school president in Minnesota resigned from his position on the heels of this conflict-of-job admission: I’m gay, and I’ve been in a same-sex relationship for almost 20 years.
Bill Hudson stepped down as head of Totino-Grace High School so he didn’t have to hide his same-sex partnership any longer, the Daily Mail reported.
“I love the Totino-Grace community,” he said in a written statement. “However, I need to be truthful about my life. I am in a committed same-sex relationship and I felt the best course of action was to inform the school.” The Daily Mail reported that his same-sex relationship has spanned 18 years.
Mr. Hudson called his decision “heartbreaking and painful,” but he felt he had to make the move in order to live “an authentic life.”
The resignation came after Mr. Hudson met with two school board members who then expressed concerns about “inconclusive” information about his rumored relationship.
“We asked him whether there was anything he felt we should know,” one board member said in The Star Tribune. “He informed us that he was in a committee same-sex relationship.” The board member later told the press in a statement that “leading a Catholic school while living in a committed same-sex relationship is not consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church,” the Daily Mail reported.
Mr. Hudson served as president of the school for nine years.
