Hollywood actor Alex Baldwin said he’s sick of social media, it’s a “waste of time,” and he’s closing his Twitter account.

That’s the third time he’s shut down his account — but this time, it comes just days after he went on an expletive-laced rant against a reporter with the Daily Mail who wrote that Mr. Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria, tweeted during James Gandolfini’s funeral in New York.

He deleted his account after that rant. But now he vows to keep it closed — though the Hollywood Reporter said that’s the third time in two years he’s made such a promise.

He said, the Hollywood Reporter reported: “I went to Jimmy Gandolfini’s funeral and when I was there, I realized Jimmy Gandolfini didn’t have Twitter. Jimmy Gandolfini was so beloved as a person, and he was so admired as an actor, and he didn’t give a [expletive] about social media … [which is] all a waste of time.”

Twitter has lost its glitter in Mr. Baldwin’s eye.

“It’s just another chink in your armor for people to come and kill you,” he said, in the Hollywood Reporter. “I stopped and said to myself, ’I’m going to try where I just don’t do this anymore.’ “

At the same time, Mr. Baldwin also said he’d love to similarly quit acting. His wife is pregnant and due to deliver this summer, and he’d love to quit work and spend more time with his family, he said.

“That would be the greatest thing in the world,” Mr. Baldwin said.

But the Hollywood Reporter said Mr. Baldwin has made that statement on previous occasions, too — but never followed through.

Other statements Mr. Baldwin has made but never honored: He vowed to leave the country in 2000 if George W. Bush was elected president.
