Spain has passed some new road rules — and alcohol imbibers beware: Walking while drunk could get you fined.
Pedestrians who are found wandering in the middle of the street, or stepping in front of moving vehicles, will now be administered breathalyzer tests to check for drugs and alcohol, United Press International reported.
Those found to be under the influence will be treated the same way as drunken drivers — given hefty fines. The fee for driving while drunk has just doubled, from $664 to $1,328, UPI reported.
The legal alcohol limit in the country is 0.25 milligrams per liter.
Lawmakers also passed as part of the road-reform package a law requiring those younger than 18 to wear bicycle helmets while riding and children under the height of 4-foot, 6-inches to be in a car safety seat.
