Sam Simon, the co-creator of “The Simpsons,” has just months to live but is spending his last moments giving away millions of dollars to various charities.
Mr. Simon has terminal colon cancer.
His royalties from the famous cartoon show have reached into the multimillions — and now that his family has been taken care of, he is giving the rest away, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Among his favorite charities: His own Sam Simon Foundation, to feed humans and dogs; PETA; the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society; and Save the Children.
“I have more money than I’m interested in spending,” he said, in the Hollywood Reporter. “Everyone in my family is taken care of. And I enjoy this.”
Mr. Simon, who has no children and is now single, harped on the need for animal rights.
“I want medical experiments on animals stopped,” he said in the report. “They don’t do anything, and they don’t work. Veganism is an answer for almost every problem facing the world in terms of hunger and climate change.”
