INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - It’s a race weekend, so it must be time for another Jimmie Johnson conspiracy theory.
This time, why was his No. 48 team the only one that set up partitions between his car and the others in the wide open garage stalls?
“Well NASCAR has given us an advantage to hide our stuff so that we can work in private and not let anybody see what is going on, but they won’t allow any other team to do it. It’s just for the No. 48,” he said, laughing.
Johnson’s team set up 8-foot partitions covered in sponsor logos to separate from Brad Keselowski and Clint Bowyer.
So what’s the deal? What is crew chief Chad Knaus hiding?
Turned out it’s really not much more than a pitch for his sponsor’s products.
“Lowe’s and KOBALT provided all the stuff that they have in store that we can put right in our pit box,” Johnson said. “Chad even went through all the steps to get it approved with NASCAR coming to the track and all that kind of stuff. It’s really just to show off the great things that are sold in store.”
Cool. But just no peeking.
