Silda Spitzer, the wife of Eliot Spitzer — whose political career was tainted by a prostitution scandal but who now seeks a career comeback as New York City comptroller — is going to file for divorce as soon as the election ends, friends quietly tell The New York Post.
She has already declined to join her husband on his campaign trail. And she now says she “has had enough” and “that she is done with him,” one source said, in The Post. “She will file for divorce after the election” on Nov. 5.
A second source confirms: “Silda is saying she is going to wait until this is all over. She has been telling friends, ’This is too hard. This is too rough,’ ” The Post reported.
The couple already lives apart, and Mr. Spitzer’s camp readily admits that the two won’t be joining forces for the campaign.
Mr. Spitzer said at a Thursday evening campaign stop in the Bronx that “I think it’s fair to say I’m running for office. No other member of my family is running for office. And I think the public is going to judge me, not who else is with me or not with me. She’s got a career. There are other things I think the public appreciates — I’m out here fighting every day for them.”
Campaign officials refused to comment to The Post about any divorce.
