Sen. John McCain had a suggestion for strippers who might be negatively impacted by legislation that would replace the dollar bill with a coin: Earn bigger notes.
The Arizona Republican joined Sens. Tom Harkin, Tom Coburn, Mike Enzi and Mark Udall in introducing the COINS Act last month, arguing that a dollar coin would save the federal government billions in printing costs, The Hill reported.
But the owner of Archibald’s Gentleman’s Club in downtown D.C. told the newspaper that the bill could hurt his dancers.
“I think it would be very awkward for everyone involved. How much more would a coin weigh than a dollar bill? It would be very hard,” Daniel Harris said, adding that “you can’t put a coin in a garter belt.”
The Hill asked Mr. McCain about the predicament in a press conference on Thursday
“Then I hope that they could obtain larger denominations,” he replied without missing a beat.
