President Obama said during Wednesday’s remarks in Illinois that he hears from members of the media all the time that his economic plans are solid.
“It’s interesting, in the run-up to this speech, a lot of reporters say that, well, Mr. President, these are all good ideas, but some … you’ve said before, some of them sound great, but you can’t get those through Congress. Republicans won’t agree with you,” Mr. Obama said, The Hill reported.
But behind-the-scenes, Mr. Obama said these reporters tell a different story — one that’s much more complimentary in tone.
“I know because they’ve said so,” Mr. Obama said, in The Hill. “But they worry they’ll face swift political retaliation for cooperating with me.”
At the same time, Mr. Obama said not all reporters give him the same fawning treatment. Some, he said, with more free-market ideals disagree with his economic policies all the time, The Hill reported.
