The last victim of the Boston Marathon bombings was discharged from the hospital Wednesday morning — exactly 100 days after the April 15 terror blast that took one of his legs.
The Daily Mail reported that Marc Fucarile, 34, was sent home from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital after a lengthy recovery of life-changing injuries: a blown-off right leg, a broken left leg, severe burns to his body and shrapnel that was lodged near his heart.
Mr. Fucarile was watching the race when the bombs detonated. Two of his friends each lost a leg in the blast, too, the Daily Mail said.
In the hospital, he recounted his thoughts and remarks from April 15 as emergency responders tried to administer aid.
“I’m like, ’I don’t want to die,’” he said, as the Daily Mail reported. “I got a little boy and I got my fiancee, ’I don’t want to die.’ [The emergency responder was] like, ’Just think of them. Just think of them. Keep them on your mind. Just hang in there.’”
After those moments, Mr. Fucarile didn’t open his eyes for a week, the Daily Mail reported. He underwent several surgeries at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he stayed for 45 days. He then was transferred to Spaulding for rehabilitation for 55 days.
In an interview from his hospital bed, Mr. Fucarile told the Daily Mail he still suffers from physical pain as well as anxiety and paranoia.
