Trayvon Martin’s father is heading to Capitol Hill to speak to congressional members about the difficulties and challenges facing blacks in 21st century America.
Tracy Martin is scheduled to speak at the first meeting of the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.
The caucus is co-chaired by Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and Rep. Danny Davis — both of whom also hold membership in the Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Also set to speak: The executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African-Americans, David Jones; and the former president of the NAACP, Kweisi Mfume.
Florida resident George Zimmerman’s acquittal of murder and manslaughter charges in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin has sparked an emotionally charged national discussion about race relations, “stand your ground” gun laws and the state of America’s judicial system.
