A convicted felon who was just named during court testimony as a friend and partner to James “Whitey” Bulger — notorious alleged Boston mobster — will be featured on a reality television show on the Discovery Channel, and crime victims’ families are outraged.
The show, called “Saint Hoods,” tells the story of Boston bookies and will feature Patrick Nee, The Boston Globe reported.
The show is set to air on Aug. 2 and will focus on underworld dealings in Roslindale, Dorchester and South Boston.
“Southie, the largest and most powerful crew in Boston, is run by notorious Pat Nee, famed for his battles with gangster Whitey Bulger,” Discovery Channel said in a release, International Business Times reported. Nee and Bulger ultimately made peace and became alleged partners in crime.
Nee’s his name has since been mentioned several times in Bulger’s current trial.
Family members of Bulger’s alleged victims say the television show and Nee’s feature is scandalous.
“I’m absolutely disgusted,” said Michael Donohue, who’s been searching for years for the identity of his father’s murderer. Mr. Donahue said in The Boston Globe that Bulger was the alleged killer, but that he learned during recent court testimony that the shooter may actually have been Nee.
