Indian authorities arrested on Wednesday the headmistress of the school where 23 students died after eating poisoned lunches.
Meena Kumari, 36, was taken into custody as she walked to court, on the way to surrendering, CNN reported. Police Superintendent Sujeet Kumar said she will face interrogation Wednesday and a court hearing on Thursday.
She’s been on authorities’ wanted list since July 16, when 23 students at a school in the northern Bihar state died after eating free lunches that were found to have contained poisonous chemicals. Another 25 who ate the food fell ill and went to the hospital for treatment.
Police also sought Mrs. Kumari’s husband for questioning, though he’s not formally named as a suspect. His whereabouts were still not known, CNN reported.
