Six people attending an hours-long sit-in for the ousted President Mohammed Morsi in Cairo were killed in clashes with security forces early Tuesday.
That follows the death of an unspecified number of Morsi supporters on Monday, BBC reported.
Mr. Morsi’s family has expressed outrage at the ongoing mystery of his whereabouts. The former president, ousted in a military coup on July 3, hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
On Monday, Mr. Morsi’s daughter Shaimaa said during a news conference in Cairo that the family was going to take legal steps to compel the military to disclose his location.
Military and government officials have only said Mr. Morsi was in a “safe place,” BBC reported. But he’s not been charged with any crime, and his family says his legal rights are being violated.
Mr. Morsi’s son, Osama, said: ’What is going on is a violation of human rights and a scandal in every sense of the word,” BBC reported. He also accused the military of an “abduction.”
