The Texas Democrat who made national headlines for her 11-hour filibuster of a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks may make a run for governor against Rick Perry in 2014.
“I cannot rule that out,” she said, on the issue of whether she’d consent to be the Democratic Party candidate for governor, the Daily Mail reported. She also said her newfound prominence “forces a second look” at her political aspirations, “but I am not taking that look right now.”
But if she did run for governor, she could be called a hypocrite. On a weekend appearance on “Meet the Press,” Ms. Davis — who only gained in notoriety due to her standoff on abortion — criticized Republicans who use abortion to advance political careers.
“What we saw in the Capitol last week, really, was people who have grown weary of our politicians trying to boost their own political careers on the backs of women by bullying them, and others, honestly, in order to promote agendas that help them personally,” she said on “Meet the Press.”
