George Takei, the actor who played Mr. Sulu in the control deck of the Starship Enterprise on the television series “Star Trek,” said he doesn’t mention “God” when he recites the Pledge of Allegiance.
“Well, when I pledge allegiance to the United States, I say, ’One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,’” he said, during an appearance on MSNBC to discuss the Supreme Court’s ruling on the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
Mr. Takei, who is gay, said the case gives the one-third of the states in the nation with same-sex marriage laws “equality.” But now, he said, “we have to work on the other two-thirds, so we’re keeping our sleeves rolled up,” Breitbart reported.
During the same interview, Mr. Takei also slammed Gov. Chris Christie’s opposition to gay marriage laws for New Jersey.
Mr. Takei referred to separation of church and state arguments and said to host Ed Schultz that Mr. Christie “has yet to get that education,” Newsbusters reported.
