Pawn shop clients in Colorado are feeling the immediate impact of a new state law that bans magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition. They can’t buy them back from the shops.
State law says that customers who pawn items actually transfer ownership to the shop. In exchange, the customers then get the right to buy them back — but new gun laws that went into effect on Monday put a damper on that transaction.
It’s now illegal for pawn shops to sell back high-capacity magazines to their original owners, The Daily Caller reported.
“No, you can’t have your magazine back,” has become a frequent mantra of Rod Brandenburg, owner of Grandpa’s Pawn and Gun, to the owners of the 50-100 banned magazines he now has at his shop, The Daily Caller said. The new law has actually forced him to break his contract with pawn clients, he said.
“The most aggravating issue to me is that we have received no training, no instruction,” on how to implement the new gun laws, he said, in The Daily Caller. He has a scheduled meeting on Tuesday with the sheriff to receive guidance.
Meanwhile, 54 elected county sheriffs are going forward with their lawsuit against the state in regards to the magazine limits and to the new required background checks for all potential gun owners.
