Schindler’s List — genuine document — to hit eBay auction

A genuine, onion-skinned Schindler’s List is set for eBay auction on Friday evening, and its California sellers are hoping for a $5 million windfall.

The reserve price is $3 million, The New York Post reported.

“Enter US $3,000,000.00 or more,” the listing will say, when it hits the online auction site at 9 p.m. EDT, The Post reported. “Free Local Pickup. Item location: Israel.”

Collectors from California, Gary Zimet and Eric Gazin, are selling the item and while $3 million is the starting bid, they’re hoping for more — at least $5 million.

“We decided to sell the list on eBay because it has over 100 million worldwide members, and this is a global story,” Mr. Gazin said, in The Post. “There are billionaires using the site, wealthy celebrities. We like the platform.

The list — made famous by the blockbuster movie, “Schindler’s List” — was named after Oskar Schindler, a businessman in Nazi-occupied Germany who saved more than 1,000 Jews from concentration camps and likely death by listing them as essential workers for his factories. There were seven versions of the list, and only four are known to still exist, The Post reported. Two of those four are in museums in Israel and Washington.

The one headed to auction is 14 pages, written on onion skin, and dated April 18, 1945.

“It is extremely rare that a document of this historical significance is put on the market,” Mr. Zimet said, in The Post.
