Reputed Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger’s former right-hand man returned to the stand Friday for likely dramatic testimony about the pair’s alleged murderous plots and schemes.
Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi testified for about 15 minutes on Thursday — and traded barbs and obscenities with his ex-pal Bulger as he departed the courtroom, The Associated Press reported.
Flemmi confessed to 10 killings in exchange for life in prison, rather than the death penalty. As a condition of the plea, he agreed to testify against Bulger.
He alleges that Bulger and he were both members of the Winter Hill Gang, and then turned into long-time informants for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Flemmi also said they both tipped off the FBI to several rival Mafia members — and to a variety of other criminals in the South Boston region, AP reported.
Trial watchers said Flemmi’s testimony would likely span hours.
