Five major retailers, including CVS and Walgreens, have said they won’t allow the current issue of Rolling Stone magazine — with its cover feature on Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev — near its store shelves.
The cover shows a head shot of the suspect, with the featured headline of “Jahar’s World.” Critics say the picture is a rock-star-type image reminiscent of Jim Morrison of the Doors, or Bob Dylan, Fox News reported.
It’s due to hit newsstands on Friday, but not at several key retail outlets with deep roots in New England.
“CVS/pharmacy has decided not to sell the current issue of Rolling Stone featuring a cover photo of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect,” the retail chain said in a statement, reported by Fox News. “As a company with deep roots in New England and with a strong presence in Boston, we believe this is the right decision out of respect for the victims of the attack and their loved ones.”
Other retailers rejecting the issue: Rite Aid and groceries Stop & Shop and Roche Bros., and Tedeschi Food Shops, Fox News reported.
