Authorities found a Texas judge dead in his chambers Monday evening, killed by a gunshot to his head.
State District Judge Tom Greenwell was found at his Corpus Christi courthouse, about two hours after closing, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.
The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released much information about the investigation, except to confirm that the judge had been shot.
Mr. Greenwell was the first Republican to win the election for judge in the county. And he won several times — in 2001, 2006 and 2010, United Press International reported.
Judges who have concealed carry permits are able to bring their weapons into the courthouse. But visitors have to pass through metal detectors, UPI said.
