Shirley Polinger and her six passengers were stuck at sea, stranded due to an engine failure in waters off the coast of Kennebunkport, Maine, when a ship approached.
The captain looked familiar, she said.
“The boat came right over to us, and this man resembled George Bush,” she said, in the Portland Press Herald. “He was very, very eager to help us. I was looking at the front of his boat and I saw ’Fidelity IV.’ I said, ’Oh my God, it’s Bush’s boat.’ “
Navigating was Neil Bush — the son of former President George H.W. Bush.
Ms. Polinger said she asked Mr. Bush for a knife to help cut free whatever was wrapped around the propeller, the Daily Mail reported. But instead, he “took off his shirt and went in the water,” she said.
“He felt around the propeller, but nothing was wrapped around it,” she said, the Daily Mail reported. “He got out of the water and asked me where I wanted to go.”
Mr. Bush then hooked her boat to his and towed it to her jetty in Wells Harbor — where a crowd of roughly 500 gathered and watched the docking, the Daily Mail reported.
