At long last, the jury for the 2009 mass shooting that left 13 dead and dozens wounded at Fort Hood has been selected, and the murder trial for Maj. Nidal Hasan is poised to get in full swing.
Maj. Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, faces 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for his admitted role in the November shooting at the Central Texas Army base, The Associated Press reported.
Maj. Hasan, who is defending himself, said earlier that he committed the shootings in defense of Taliban leaders in Afghanistan, AP reported.
The lead-up to his trial — now scheduled for Aug. 6 — has been marked by delays and postponements. The jury that was chosen on Tuesday includes nine colonels, three lieutenant colonels and a major, the Killeen Daily Herald reported.
Two said they had doubts about imposing the death penalty, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
