News Corp. head Rupert Murdoch took to Twitter late Sunday to voice support for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s call to vote on immigration overhaul.

His tweet: “Sen Reid right! Boehner should allow House of Reps to vote on immigration. Lead, for country’s sake.”

Mr. Reid shortly after retweeted the message, Politico reported.

Mr. Murdoch, 82, is a conservative media mogul, but this isn’t the first time he’s crossed political aisles to push the left’s view of comprehensive immigration reform. In 2012, he called on Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney to add it to his platform and, after Mr. Romney lost, went on a Twitter rant for “sweeping, generous immigration reform.”

But his direct support of Mr. Reid is new, Politico reported, and it ratchets up pressure on the Republican-controlled House to cave and consider the reform.
