“The View” co-host Barbara Walters confirmed Monday on “The View” that actress Jenny McCarthy will join the show in its 17th season beginning Sept. 9.

“Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor,” Miss Walters, who will leave the show next summer, said in a statement. “She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for ’The View.’”

The announcement comes just five days after Elisabeth Hasselbeck signed off for a new gig on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends.”

“I’m beyond thrilled … I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off,” Miss McCarthy said in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The 40-year-old former Playboy playmate has appeared in comedic roles in such films as “Scream 3” and “Scary Movie 3.” She is also a best-selling author.
