OPINION:
“Health care now” was the chant in the run-up to passage of “Obamacare.” People were dying in the streets. Now, President Obama has ordered a delay for a key part of the law: the employer mandate (“Obamacare mandate delay makes case for other fixes,” Web, July 8). Apparently Americans need health care, but just not right now. Doesn’t Mr. Obama care about the bodies stacked up like cordwood in front of the White House owing to the lack of health care?
What part of the Constitution allows a president to delay the enforcement of any law? I thought a president’s duty was to uphold the law. I must have been playing hooky the day that was covered in my high school civics class. Delaying the employer mandate is a purely political move. The goal for the upcoming midterm elections is to protect Democrats who voted for Obamacare and to temporarily minimizing the financial impact until 2015.
The reason we get taken for a ride by Washington is because there has never been a penalty for not looking out for the voters. We keep re-electing the same people. Elections remind me of that scene from “Animal House” in which the fraternity pledges get paddled and say, “Thank you, sir. May I have another?”
It’s quite literally a matter of life and death that we hold every Democrat accountable for Obamacare. In 2014, we are going to find out if Americans understand this and vote out every Democrat.
