A handful of environmental activists took their protest of Arctic oil drilling to new heights on Thursday — they tried to scale the tallest building in Western Europe.
Greenpeace said six of its activists, all women, launched the climbing expedition in order to attach artwork to the top of the London tower, Shard, roughly 1,017 feet in the air. The building spans 72 stories and is within view of the London offices of Royal Dutch Shell, The Associated Press reported.
London police have responded to the scene. A spokesman with the Metropolitan Police Service said officers are monitoring the situation, AP reported.
